Institute of Marine Science
Operated by Burapha University in the seaside town of Bangsaen, this marine science institute functions primarily as a public aquarium, giving visitors a close look at the diverse sea life found in the Gulf of Thailand. Jellyfish displays are a particular highlight according to visitors, alongside tanks featuring a wide variety of fish and other marine species. The combination of genuine scientific purpose and accessible public exhibits gives the facility a more grounded, educational feel than a commercial aquarium, making it a good fit for families, students, and anyone with an interest in coastal ecosystems. The space is reasonably sized, with most visitors completing a full walkthrough in around an hour. The atmosphere is relaxed but can become crowded and warm on weekends when families turn out in large numbers, and air circulation inside the building is noted as limited. The facility is cash-only, so arriving without cards is not an issue as long as visitors come prepared with Thai baht. Good to know: Ticket prices are modest, though foreigners pay a higher rate than Thai nationals — reviews suggest the current foreign price sits around 100 to 220 baht for adults, so it is worth confirming current pricing on arrival. Weekday visits offer a noticeably quieter experience. The institute is located in Bangsaen, a short drive from central Pattaya, and pairs naturally with a visit to nearby Bangsaen Beach for a comfortable half-day outing.

Visitor Reviews
I recently visited the aquarium in ชลบุรี, and it was an amazing experience. As soon as I walked in, I was surrounded by colorful marine life and peaceful underwater scenery. I enjoyed watching the sharks glide gracefully through the large tanks and seeing the vibrant tropical fish up close. One of my favorite parts was the tunnel walkway, where fish swam right above my head. The jellyfish display was also breathtaking, glowing beautifully in the dim light. Overall, the trip was both relaxing and educational, and it made me appreciate the beauty of ocean life even more
The ticket price was quite cheap, which was nice. But since it was a Sunday, the place was packed. Lots of families, lots of kids—very crowded overall. The air circulation inside wasn’t great either, so it felt a bit stuffy after a while. Parking was a struggle—took a while to find a spot, and most spaces were full. It’s a fun place if you go during a quieter time, but weekends can be overwhelming. Probably better on a weekday if you want to walk around comfortably.
It is highly recommended to visit if you are traveling to the Bangsaen area for a foreign price around 100 baht but it is worth it for all family members not just for the kids. Highlights are Jelly fish exhibitions. There are also big fish tanks which you will enjoy and feel like you're under water.
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
