Both public ferries and private speedboats depart from here, making it the practical starting point for most island day trips in the area. The pier handles a steady volume of traffic and can be busy during peak hours, though departures are frequent and the boarding process is generally well-organised. Public ferries to Koh Larn are the most budget-friendly option, costing around 30 baht per person and taking approximately 45 minutes to reach the island. Speedboats offer a faster crossing but at a higher price, and visitors should note that speedboats typically dock on the east side of Koh Larn, requiring an additional tuk-tuk ride to reach the main beaches — whereas ferries arrive more directly at Tawaen Beach. For practical planning, arrive at least 15 to 30 minutes before the intended departure, particularly during the high season between November and February when services fill quickly. Ticket counters are located at the pier itself, so advance booking is not always necessary for the public ferry, but organised tour groups and speedboat charters can be arranged on-site or booked ahead.
