Thong Krut Pier
Thong Krut Pier operates as the primary launching point for boat excursions to Koh Tan, Pig Island, and other small islands scattered across the Gulf of Thailand off Koh Samui's southern coast. While the pier itself is a no-frills, functional waterfront rather than a destination in its own right, it draws travellers looking to explore beyond the main island — particularly those interested in snorkelling trips, fishing excursions, and multi-island day tours. The surrounding area has a quiet, local character that contrasts with Koh Samui's busier resort zones. Visitors can book boat tours directly at the pier from small operators stationed on-site, which reviewers consistently note is significantly cheaper than booking through hotels or online platforms. A private boat can be arranged for around 2,000 baht, and group tours covering three islands with lunch are also available. The island trips themselves receive strong praise, with Pig Island frequently highlighted as a standout stop. The nearby beach offers a relaxed atmosphere, though it is better suited to sunbathing than swimming. Good to know: Arriving by 9.30am gives travellers the best chance of joining an early departure, with first boats typically leaving around 10am. Bring cash, as smaller pier operators are unlikely to accept card payments. Sun protection is essential for any boat excursion, and checking weather conditions before heading out is advisable, as sea conditions affect boat schedules.

Visitor Reviews
Great for tours. Just go the small pier and book directly your tour at the small club there. It's much cheaper than tourist office or online and you get your private boat. We paid 2000 baht to the pig island on our own boat.
3 island tour with lunch, Including pig island, great trip, snorkeling stop wasn't the best but didn't spoil a great day. Just turned up 930am paid then got on first boat out at 10am
Boats to islands are brilliant, restaurants are very good. Pig island id an absolute must, Take local fishing boats from here to islands. 👌
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
