Big Buddha pier
Situated on Koh Samui's northeastern coast in Bo Put, Big Buddha Pier functions as a practical departure point for ferry services and boat transport connecting the island to surrounding destinations. Its location near the iconic Big Buddha statue makes it a natural stopping point for travellers already exploring that part of the island, though the pier itself is primarily a transit hub rather than a sightseeing destination. Visitors can expect a working pier atmosphere with ferries and boats operating throughout the day. The setting is functional and straightforward, with a relaxed edge — reviewers note it is a pleasant place to wait, with vendors nearby offering drinks such as mango smoothies. Shared van transfers to Koh Samui's main areas, including Chaweng and the airport, are available for around 100 baht per person, making it a useful connection point for onward travel across the island. Good to know: Arriving early in the day is advisable for better availability on ferry departures, which reviewers report generally run on time. Ferry tickets can be purchased on the spot at the pier. Those combining a pier visit with a trip to the Big Buddha temple nearby can make efficient use of the area, with the temple requiring roughly half an hour. A short drive also brings visitors to a secondary temple featuring a smiling Buddha. Bring sun protection, as shade at the pier is limited.

Visitor Reviews
Really big :) I was thinking like another Buddha to see but if you can allocate half an hour it worth going there. Also the other temple with smiling buddha in 10 minutes drive.
Best to come early in the day and buy ferry tickets on spot, usually the fairies live on time and the cruise is nice and quiet with beautiful view.
beautiful space to wait for the ferry while sipping on a cold mango smoothie
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
