Khao Nam Pu Nature and Wildlife Education Center
Nestled in the forested Si Sawat District of Kanchanaburi, this nature and wildlife education centre is primarily dedicated to the conservation and reintroduction of banteng — a species of wild cattle native to Southeast Asia, also known locally as red cattle. The centre houses a captive population of banteng in spacious enclosures as part of broader reintroduction efforts, offering visitors a rare chance to observe these animals up close. The banteng are notably tame, though they can be skittish around people, which adds an element of authentic wildlife observation to the visit. Beyond the banteng enclosures, the centre incorporates hands-on environmental education, including reforestation activities using seed-launching slingshots — a memorable and interactive touch that resonates with visitors of all ages. A camping area on site makes it possible to stay overnight, and those who have done so describe the surroundings as quiet, peaceful, and refreshingly cool. The atmosphere is unhurried and educational rather than commercially driven, making it well suited to families, students, and travellers with a genuine interest in wildlife conservation. Good to know: Specific opening hours and entrance fees are not listed online, so it is worth contacting local tourism offices in Kanchanaburi or enquiring through accommodation in the area before making the journey. The centre sits in a relatively remote part of Si Sawat District, so having private transport is advisable. Pairing a visit here with other natural attractions in Kanchanaburi, such as the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary corridor, makes for a rewarding multi-stop itinerary for nature-focused travellers.

Visitor Reviews
The Red Cattle Learning Center also has a camping area. It's quiet and peaceful. The male cows are darker in color than the females. Actually, they're afraid of people; they'll run away when you approach their enclosure. The place is very natural. We visited on a day when there were no staff present. If you plan to visit, contact the office for information. Entry is free.
Thank you to everyone. This place was very educational about red cattle and reforestation using slingshots. It was two peaceful, fun, quiet, cold, and eerie nights. I'll bring my friends to visit next time.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
