Huai Mae Sak Waterfall Forest Park
Tucked away in the Wiang Chiang Rung District of Chiang Rai, Huai Mae Sak Waterfall Forest Park offers a calm natural escape within a lush, green setting. The waterfall itself is modest in scale but genuinely attractive, framed by dense forest that lends the air a fresh, earthy quality. The sound of falling water and the surrounding greenery create a tranquil atmosphere that makes it well suited to a relaxed half-day outing or a casual family visit. The waterfall is reached via a 350-metre walk from the parking area along a paved path that climbs uphill with a notably steep section in places. The water is shallow enough for children to wade and play safely, though the rocks underfoot can be slippery, so appropriate footwear is advisable. Visitors who come on quieter days may well have the area largely to themselves, and staff on site are noted as polite and welcoming. It is worth noting that the water can be cold, particularly outside the warmer months, so swimming may not always be comfortable. Those using navigation apps should be cautious, as at least one visitor reports that Google Maps can direct drivers along an unsuitable dirt road rather than the correct paved approach. While there are other waterfalls in the Chiang Rai area that some travellers rate more highly, this park makes for a pleasant and unhurried stop, especially for those travelling with children or simply looking for a quiet moment in nature.

Visitor Reviews
The waterfall is beautiful, a 350-meter walk from the parking lot. The staff are polite and friendly. The path to the waterfall is uphill, a bit steep, so be careful as you ascend and descend. The waterfall is clear and cool. Bring a chair to rest and enjoy the view. You can swim in the water below, in the pool, which is quite deep. Drive into the alley next to Wiang Chiang Rung Kindergarten School, about 15 kilometers. Follow the GPS directions.
The waterfall is nice and surrounded by greenery. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, good for a short walk or bringing kids to play in the water. The water isn’t too deep, but the rocks can be slippery, so be careful. Overall, a nice place to visit. 🌿💦
Too cold to swim but had all to ourselves. About a ten minute walk from parking. Small paved road. Do not follow Google map on dirty road.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
