MATOOM ART SPACE
Tucked away in a quiet residential corner of Chiang Mai's Haiya neighbourhood, Matoom Art Space is an intimate artist's studio and gallery where original paintings meet a deeply calm, contemplative atmosphere. The works on display draw on themes of consciousness, spirituality, and stillness, with an abstract style that visitors consistently describe as peaceful and thought-provoking — a genuine contrast to the busier cultural attractions found elsewhere in the city. Beyond the gallery experience, Matoom Art Space offers hands-on art lessons, including watercolour sessions that have drawn enthusiastic responses from both adults and younger visitors. The resident artist is noted for being welcoming and generous in sharing their craft, making lessons feel personal rather than commercial. The studio carries a strong creative energy that appeals equally to those seeking artistic instruction and those simply looking for a reflective space to slow down. As no website or confirmed opening hours are currently listed, prospective visitors are advised to contact the studio in advance or visit in person to confirm availability, particularly before planning a lesson. The location on Suriyawong 5 Road is away from the main tourist corridors, so factoring in a little extra travel time is worthwhile. Given its small, independent nature, early contact is especially recommended for those hoping to book a private or group lesson.

Visitor Reviews
My son had a 3 hour watercolour lesson here. Was really great and hewas really happy to expand on his skills. The teacher was so welcoming and obviously enjoyed sharing his love of art.
It is a must-go place in Chiang Mai. It is a lovely studio with good vibes in a quiet part of the town and they also offer art lessons. I recommend!
Fully in love with the abstract and peaceful creations centring consciousness and calmness. Perfect combo of art and spirituality 🌟
Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture
Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
