Bureau of the Royal Household
Located within the historic Grand Palace grounds at Na Phra Lan Road in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, the Bureau of the Royal Household serves as the official administrative body managing the affairs of the Thai Royal Family. While primarily a government office rather than a conventional tourist attraction, its position inside one of Bangkok's most celebrated heritage sites means visitors frequently encounter it while exploring the surrounding complex. The area around the Bureau benefits enormously from its setting within the Grand Palace walls. Visitors report that the atmosphere, particularly in the evening, is peaceful and well-suited to leisurely walks. The grounds near Wat Phra Kaew, which sits within the same complex, draw considerable foot traffic, and the combination of historic architecture and open space creates a distinctly memorable environment. Those who explore beyond the main temple often find quiet stretches along the outer walls ideal for an unhurried stroll. Good to know: the Bureau operates every day of the week, including weekends, with hours running from 08:30 to 15:30. As this is an active government facility within a royal compound, visitors should dress respectfully, covering shoulders and knees, which is also required for entry to nearby Wat Phra Kaew. Be mindful of vehicle traffic in the area, particularly when walking along roads that border the palace walls.

Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
