Saawaan

4.7(612 reviews)

Saawaan is a fine dining restaurant in Bangkok's Sathon district that elevates traditional Thai cuisine through contemporary technique and carefully sourced ingredients. The kitchen presents a single tasting menu that guides diners through the regional flavours, spices, and cooking methods of Thailand, reinterpreted with a level of precision and creativity more commonly associated with high-end international dining. Visitors consistently highlight the element of surprise built into the meal, with additional courses and thoughtful interludes extending the experience beyond the core menu. The atmosphere is intimate and polished, suited to special occasions or any evening when a more considered dining experience is the priority. Staff are noted for their warmth and knowledge, taking time to explain each dish and its context within Thai culinary tradition. Locally brewed beverages are available to complement the menu, adding a sense of place to the overall experience. Saawaan operates exclusively for dinner, opening at 5:30 PM every day of the week and closing at 11:30 PM. Because the restaurant offers a single set menu format, guests should visit the website at saawaan.com ahead of time to review current menu details and, importantly, to secure a reservation. The restaurant's location on Soi Suanplu in Sathon is accessible by BTS Skytrain or taxi from most central Bangkok neighbourhoods, making logistics straightforward for visitors staying across the city.

This was amazing! Such creativity in this place, which combines Michelin style cooking with traditional Thai food, creating innovative new dishes. The many surprises in between the courses highlighted the versatility of this cuisine and often contained a show element - expect a few ‘ohs and ahs’. Next to this, the wines available were of a level we had not yet seen in Thailand - just like the desserts and pastry course. The explanation and background given per course was very clear and elevated our dining experience. A point of improvement might be to elaborate a bit more on the printed ingredients per course, which were sometimes a bit too concise and therefore not understandable. Friendly service, especially by the maitre and MM. Many thanks for a great evening, we will definitely be recommending this place.

A wonderful experience! There is one set menu that takes you through a journey of Thailand true spices flavors and techniques, paired with the best ingredients from abroad. The locally brewed beers are a real surprise. The restaurant has lost the Michelin macaron (it’s not a star arghhh) during the hand over of chefs in 2023. Not so bad for the clients; we get to pay a fair price instead of the inflated mediatic ones. Kudos to the brigade!

Overall we love this place. The food was wonderful , staff were friendly and knowledgeable and good service with the reasonable price . We came from Australia. Looking for good food is always our main tasks during our trip . We came for dinner for our anniversary. It’s our first time and would love to come back again when we visit Thailand next time. Highly recommended! Well done Chefs and staff , thanks

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
