Rimnam Bangsai

4.4(1,197 reviews)$$$$

Rimnam Bangsai sits at the scenic confluence where the Noi River meets the Chao Phraya, placing it among the more atmospheric dining spots in the Ayutthaya region. The restaurant draws both locals and visitors with its speciality in central Thai-style seafood, most notably giant river prawns prepared over a grill — a dish that regularly earns praise from diners. Fish cakes, soups, and a broad menu of traditional Thai dishes round out the offering, making it a destination for those who take their food seriously rather than simply eating between temple visits. The setting is genuinely scenic, with river breezes providing natural relief from the heat and views across the water lending the meal a relaxed, unhurried quality. Mid-range pricing keeps it accessible, and the kitchen's ability to accommodate large groups makes it a practical choice for families or group travellers. The location sits outside central Ayutthaya, giving it a quieter, more local character than restaurants closer to the main heritage sites. The journey from Bangkok takes over an hour by car, so Rimnam Bangsai rewards those who plan ahead rather than stumble upon it. Making a reservation is advisable, particularly for larger groups, as the restaurant's reputation draws a steady crowd. Combining the visit with broader exploration of the Bang Srai area — including nearby temples and riverside scenery — makes the trip worthwhile.

Visitor Reviews

Worth the visit if you can be bothered to take the 1hr+ car ride from Bangkok to Ayutthaya! The food was of high quality, and the restaurant was very accommodating to our large group. We made a booking beforehand given our group size, and I would highly recommend doing so if you plan on having lunch/dinner given how busy the place was by the time we left (our booking was from 1030). River prawns are a must order, but don't get too hung up on going for the largest sizes as we found the "smaller" ones to have almost the same amount of meat whilst getting more prawns for the price. Everything else on the menu was delicious too, and they also service alcohol on site.

Riverside Dining Where Two Currents Meet Set at the scenic junction where the Noi River meets the Chao Phraya, this riverside restaurant offers a serene and breezy atmosphere — especially beautiful in the early evening. The menu features a wide selection of Central Thai cuisine, with flavors that are mellow, well-balanced, and not overly spicy — perfect for all palates. Freshwater fish and river prawns are highlights here, prepared in various delicious styles. It’s an ideal place for family gatherings or dining with friends, allowing everyone to share and savor a variety of traditional Thai dishes in a peaceful riverside setting.

Great view beside the river Great foods at acceptable price Fish cake was excellent

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
