Layan Beach

4.6(102 reviews)

Tucked away in the Thalang District of northern Phuket, Layan Beach offers roughly two kilometres of wide, gently sloping sand that draws visitors looking to trade the island's busier shorelines for something quieter. The water here is notably calm and warm, making it well-suited to swimming and paddling, while natural shade along the beach adds to the unhurried atmosphere. Even during high season, the beach retains a sense of space and tranquillity that more popular stretches in Phuket struggle to maintain. The setting is straightforward and unfussy. Visitors can expect long walks along the shoreline, gentle waves suitable for families and those wanting a relaxed swim, and particularly rewarding sunset views in the early evenings. The landscape is relatively natural in character, and the low-key atmosphere attracts those seeking a break from the more commercialised beach zones nearby without sacrificing accessibility or a clean, pleasant environment. Layan Beach is subject to tidal changes that can noticeably affect the shoreline, so checking a tide schedule before visiting is a practical step worth taking. The dry season, running from November through February, brings the calmest seas and most reliable weather. Arriving in the morning helps secure a good spot on weekends and during peak travel periods. Basic sun protection is essential, as exposed sections of the beach receive strong direct sunlight through the middle of the day.

It is a fairly large beach, with a complex landscape marking. It is approximately 2 kilometers long. The beach is subject to low tides (follow the tides in the app. This beach is not a popular beach on the island, there are very few people here. The hustle and bustle of the city is still far from here, but you can already see the development of another hotel somewhere. Umbrellas and sun loungers can be rented from the hotel located near the beach. The flora of this beach is made up of shrubs and coniferous casuarinas. The water in the sea is clear, emerald in color. The sand is crisp, golden in color! The entrance to the sea is shallow. During the rainy season it can be windy. Absolutely one of the most relaxing beaches in Phuket. Calm, shallow water with natural shade and not too many people, even in high season. Great spot for swimming, paddling or just a quiet sunset walk. There are a few stalls and loungers, but most of the beach stays peaceful and undeveloped. Perfect if you want to get away from the noise of the bigger beaches.

This beach is beautiful with sand that stretches as far as the eye can see. There is a safe area inside the flags but the water is gentle and very warm. Highly recommended really first class. The sunsets are quite spectacular and it was a very clear evening

Tips for Visiting Beaches & Islands

Check Monsoon Seasons

The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) has rough seas from May to October. The Gulf coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan) is roughest from October to December. Plan your island-hopping around these windows.

Snorkel Gear Is Cheap to Buy

Rental gear is often scratched and ill-fitting. Buy a decent mask and snorkel at a Tesco Lotus or Big C for 300–500 THB — cheaper than two days of rentals and much more hygienic.

Book Ferries on 12Go.Asia

The 12Go platform lets you compare ferry operators, times, and prices between islands. Book a day or two ahead in high season. Avoid the cheapest operators if reviews mention safety concerns.
