Kamala Beach
Situated along Phuket's northwestern coast, Kamala Beach strikes a balance that many travellers actively seek — lively enough to offer a full range of amenities, yet noticeably calmer and more relaxed in atmosphere than the busier resort strips nearby. Framed by wooded hills and a traditional fishing village, the bay draws families, couples, and those who want convenience without the chaos. The warm, generally low-swell water makes it well-suited for swimming, and a range of watersports is available directly on the beach alongside sun loungers and vendors. The beachfront is lined with restaurants, and a 7-Eleven is close by for budget-friendly essentials. Sunsets here are a particular draw, with several spots to watch the sky change over the Andaman Sea. Visitors should be aware that some beachfront restaurants carry a premium on pricing, reflecting the area's growing popularity. The beach sits conveniently between Patong and the quieter northern beaches, making it a practical base for exploring both directions. A few practical notes worth knowing: public bathroom facilities on the beach are limited to a single paid option on the beach walkway, so plan accordingly. Rip currents and tides can occasionally be hazardous, so swimmers should exercise appropriate caution regardless of how calm conditions appear on the surface. Kamala is best visited during the dry season, roughly November through April, when seas are at their most settled.

Visitor Reviews
If you find Patong too chaotic but still want plenty of bars and restaurants, Kamala is the place to be. It’s definitely busy and popular in 2026, but the energy is much more "civilized" and relaxed. Great for a long sunset walk. Lots of excellent beachfront dining where you can eat with your feet in the sand. Much cleaner water than the busier spots further south!
Great calm beach. Beautiful sunsets. Restaurants, sunbeds, vendors and all kind of watersports.
Really hard to find a bathroom here just FYI. Only one in the beach walkway and you have to pay 10 baht. Beautiful beach though with tons of restaurants and 7-11 close by. Kamala is a nice area, but the beach is by far not the nicest in the island. You can see some cool creatures and shells around though, but it’s also a bit dirty (especially after a tide comes in).

Tips for Visiting Beaches & Islands
Check Monsoon Seasons
The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) has rough seas from May to October. The Gulf coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan) is roughest from October to December. Plan your island-hopping around these windows.
Snorkel Gear Is Cheap to Buy
Rental gear is often scratched and ill-fitting. Buy a decent mask and snorkel at a Tesco Lotus or Big C for 300–500 THB — cheaper than two days of rentals and much more hygienic.
Book Ferries on 12Go.Asia
The 12Go platform lets you compare ferry operators, times, and prices between islands. Book a day or two ahead in high season. Avoid the cheapest operators if reviews mention safety concerns.
