Phi Phi Viewpoint 2
Perched high above Koh Phi Phi Don, this elevated viewpoint delivers some of the most dramatic scenery in the Krabi region, with sweeping vistas across the island's twin bays, surrounding limestone formations, and the distant Ao Nang coastline. The climb is genuinely steep — visitors describe very steep stairs and a demanding ascent — but the unobstructed panoramic views from the summit consistently draw travellers to make the effort. A cafe at or near the top provides a welcome place to rest and recover before the descent. Timing makes a meaningful difference to the experience here. Sunrise visits reward early risers with cooler temperatures, softer light, and considerably fewer crowds, with dawn typically arriving around 6:30am. Sunset draws larger numbers but offers its own photographic appeal, with warm golden light washing over the bays below. Both windows are popular with photographers and casual sightseers alike, and the viewpoint accommodates visitors who want to linger without any pressure to move on. Good to know: The ascent is steep enough that solid footwear is strongly recommended — sandals or flip-flops will make the climb harder than it needs to be. Bring water, particularly for midday visits when heat and humidity can make the hike more taxing. Arriving early for sunrise or well before sunset helps secure a good vantage point before crowds build. Allow at least one to two hours for the round trip, including time to rest at the top.

Visitor Reviews
Stopping at Phi Phi Viewpoint 2 was an absolute highlight of my island adventure! This location is much more than just a place to catch your breath; it's a wonderfully situated cafe and resting spot right in the middle of the challenging trek. I found it perfectly positioned while making the ascent up to Viewpoint 1—or perhaps continuing on to the higher sections of the trail, depending on your route. The main draw, of course, is the unbelievable panoramic ocean view, which is truly breathtaking. You can see the entire double bay, with the turquoise water stretching out to the horizon. But what elevates this stop from mandatory to magnificent is the incredible variety of food and drink on offer. Seriously, for a place perched high up on a tropical island, the menu variety is exceptional. We enjoyed finding a full array of delicious, authentic Thai dishes, alongside simpler, refreshing snacks and ice-cold beverages. The staff are welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxed, making it the ideal spot for a lengthy, well-deserved break. The food tastes fresh and satisfying after the climb. The view alone justifies the sweat, but having such fantastic culinary options right there seals the deal. It’s an essential stop to recharge, capture some incredible photos of Ko Phi Phi, and savor a full meal. Don't rush past this gem—it’s worth every minute of your time.
Great spot for sunrise. You can walk through dawn as most of the island won't have the full sun yet so no need to rush. Sunrise was 6:30ish, I got to the top around 6:50 Be warned, It is very steep it took about 15 minutes with good health to get all the way from the start of the stairs. Go slow if you can. You'll get the first of the sun rays through the cloud, and then see all the most burn off in the jungle behind as you look out to the island. Push past viewpoint 1 and head straight for viewpoint 2 for the sunrise and sit and watch for an hour or so. Only about 5 other people before a tour turned up for Instagram photos and quickly left otherwise very peaceful way to start the day. Sit up on the rocks to get a better view of the sun over the jungle and to avoid groups on the platform just for photos Small cafe at the top for drinks but bring water. It's well sign posted when you get near the stairs and is now 50 baht ticket but worth it. The route to viewpoint 3 was unclear and looked tough, so didn't head there.
Great view, especially during sunset! It’s a few very steep stairs, but so worth it. I recommend going up early in the morning or shortly before sun sets, depending on how fast you are and how much traffic there is on the stairs you’ll need a good 20-40 minutes (not including walking there). There’s lots of people up there during sunset, but you’ll be able to get a seat easily on some of the stones. We went up around 5:30pm and were perfectly able to see the sun set behind the mountain. Beware that you’ll need around 20 Baht per person to cross viewpoint one. If you made it to viewpoint 1 def go to viewpoint 2 - it’s only another 5-10min walk (and no more stairs). Definitely go there to catch a sunset, it’s really worth it (but can be crowded)! Another plus point: you’ll see some cute cats!
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
