Mu Ko Lanta National Park
Sitting at the southern tip of Koh Lanta Yai, this national park protects a chain of Andaman Sea islands alongside a land-based section that rewards visitors with jungle wildlife, coastal viewpoints, and a genuine sense of remoteness. It is the kind of place that appeals to travellers looking for a low-key half-day in nature rather than a fully developed attraction, and the drive to the park entrance is itself a highlight — langur monkeys are commonly spotted along the road before visitors even reach the trailhead. The main draw on land is a roughly two-kilometre walking trail through jungle terrain, winding upward through forest to viewpoints overlooking the sea. The path is steep in sections and the atmosphere is quiet and unhurried. Two species of monkeys are regularly seen along the trail, though they are known to approach visitors in search of food. The wider park encompasses coral reefs, mangrove forests, and limestone islands, making it relevant for those with an interest in water-based exploration as well. Good to know: Admission costs 200 baht per person, with an additional 20 baht for motorbikes. Proper footwear is essential — the trail is uneven and too steep for flip-flops. Arriving in the morning is strongly recommended, both to avoid the midday heat and to improve the chances of wildlife sightings. Keep bags and food secured around the monkeys. The park works best as one stop within a broader Koh Lanta itinerary; visitors expecting extensive facilities or varied activities may find the on-site experience limited. The best conditions for water-based activities in the surrounding park area fall between November and April.

Beautiful place. The trail at the beginning is quite challenging, but it’s definitely worth it. You need proper shoes — don’t wear flip-flops. We saw monkeys, enjoyed beautiful views, and learned about some plants along the way. To complete the whole route, you need around 1 hour plus 1 hour to chill etc
Really nice and easy walk in the national park - about 2 kms. It’s a relaxed trail. You’ll see two kinds of monkeys along the way, which is pretty cool! Just make sure to watch your bags and food because they can be quick and aggressive. You start from the entrance near the parking lot and end to beautiful beach. The entrance fee is 200 THB, plus 20 THB for a motorbike. The ticket also covers the waterfall on the same day.
It is a nice easy park to spend the morning at. The drive to the park is beautiful, and we saw lots of langur monkeys on the way! It is quite steep and windy, and inexperienced bikers should proceed with caution. The nature trail is rather steep at the beginnings and ends, so go early in the morning before it heats up. We were also lucky enough to see several langur monkeys on this trail. I would recommend doing the nature trail in clockwise fashion as intended. That way, you are climbing UP the hardest part, and you get to descend with some easier stairs. The beach is beautiful white sand beach, with lots of shade. However, there are lots of sharp rocks in the water and we both cut our feet up pretty good. It is one of the fewer east-facing beaches on the island. However, it is at the southernmost tip of this island so you could surely catch a sunset from the lighthouse area.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
