Lanta Island elephant Lover Sanctuary
Set near Klong Jak Waterfall on Koh Lanta, this sanctuary offers a genuinely welfare-focused alternative to conventional elephant tourism. With a near-perfect visitor rating, it stands out for its commitment to ethical animal care, allowing guests to spend meaningful time with elephants in a natural forest environment rather than watching performances or riding. The small-scale, attentive setup means interactions feel personal rather than rushed. Visitors typically take part in feeding, bathing, and walking with the elephants through forest trails, with knowledgeable guides providing commentary on elephant behaviour as well as the surrounding flora. Staff are consistently praised for their friendliness and English-speaking ability, and the experience includes complimentary cold water and fruit. The elephants are described by visitors as calm and well cared for, and the setting provides ample opportunity for photography throughout the morning. Booking in advance is strongly recommended, as group sizes appear to be kept small. The sanctuary is straightforward to reserve through direct communication, which visitors report is responsive and easy. Wear clothes you do not mind getting wet or muddy, and opt for closed-toe shoes suitable for uneven forest terrain. The location is relatively remote on the island, so arranging private transport or a taxi in advance will save time. Arriving in the morning is advisable, as this tends to be when the animals are most active and the heat is more manageable.

Visitor Reviews
We did the elephant meet and greet as well as walking with them through the forest. You can tell from the very start that these animals are very well looked after and hopefully will live the rest of their lives in this amazing place. We also did the waterfall/cave walk just down the road from the sanctuary in the national park, its about 2 hours, the hike itself is 4/10 in difficultily, would recommend if you want to see some of the amazing rain forests that they have here in Thailand.
I love visiting this elephant sanctuary! They were extremely easy to communicate with about reserving a spot. Cold water was offered as soon as we arrived. Guide spoke great English and taught us a lot along the way. You can tell that the elephants are really happy and taken care of. We fed the elephants, walked in the woods with them, watched them give themselves a mud bath, and helped bathe them in water afterward. Such a wholesome experience
What an amazing experience! We Fed, washed and walked with the Elephants! The visit was informative and Yob, the guide explained about the surrounding trees and plants also. We turned up and paid for entry or go through your hotel, visiting times available online. If you go through travel agents then they will take a percentage which is taken away from the Elephants and Park! Definitely do it!
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
