Long before the beach resorts, the money here came out of the ground, and the site marks that industry and the people who worked it. It's modest. You walk up, you look, you read, you think about it for ten minutes and move on. Anyone arriving expecting a museum-scale attraction will be disappointed, so adjust your expectations before you go.
What makes it worth the stop is context. Pair it with the shophouses and heritage streets of central Mueang Phuket and the island's story starts to make sense in a way it never does from a sun lounger. I'd go early, before the heat sets in and while the traffic on Phuket Road is still manageable. Photographers will get better light then too.
