Suan Son Beach

4.6(2,672 reviews)

Suan Son Beach, commonly known as Army Beach due to its adjacency to a military base, provides a genuinely unhurried alternative to the busier coastal stretches around central Hua Hin. Long sweeps of white sand are lined with pine trees that offer natural shade, and the waves remain calm enough for comfortable swimming throughout much of the year. The setting attracts Thai families and international visitors alike who are seeking a low-key day at the beach rather than a commercial tourist experience. Facilities are simple and affordable. Deck chairs, umbrellas, and a small table can be rented as a set for around 100 baht, toilets and showers are available on site for approximately 10 baht, and there is no entrance fee to access the beach. Food and drink options are available nearby, keeping the overall visit straightforward without requiring much advance planning. The atmosphere skews toward daytime relaxation rather than evening entertainment, making it a poor fit for those seeking nightlife but an easy choice for families or anyone after a peaceful outing. The cool season from November to February offers the most comfortable visiting conditions, with lower humidity and little rainfall. Weekends and Thai public holidays bring noticeably more visitors, particularly local families, so arriving earlier in the day improves the chances of finding a good spot beneath the pines. Suan Son Beach is reachable from central Hua Hin by taxi or a short train ride, making it a practical half-day or full-day excursion. Sun protection and light clothing are advisable regardless of the season.

Very nice beach, only a short train ride or taxi from Hua Hin. Very pleased to have found this beach, long stretches of white sand and blue sea. Nice to get away from the crowds and enjoy a quiet relaxed beach ⛱️. The beach is edged with trees which provided great shade and there were deck chairs and umbrellas available for 100 Baht. No sun loungers available. We arrived just before 10am and didn't leave until 4pm. There is a small indoor market of food and drink stalls with indoor seating.

This is also called Army Beach because it is adjacent to the Army Base. We rented a couple of deck chairs (surprisingly comfortable), umbrella and small table for ฿100. The beach is quite nice, not crowded. A nearby food court provides food and refreshments. There's also stalls selling clothing, and tourist tatt. The beach is a 10-15 minute motorbike ride from Takiab. Well worth a visit.

Tips for Visiting Beaches & Islands

Check Monsoon Seasons

The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) has rough seas from May to October. The Gulf coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan) is roughest from October to December. Plan your island-hopping around these windows.

Snorkel Gear Is Cheap to Buy

Rental gear is often scratched and ill-fitting. Buy a decent mask and snorkel at a Tesco Lotus or Big C for 300–500 THB — cheaper than two days of rentals and much more hygienic.

Book Ferries on 12Go.Asia

The 12Go platform lets you compare ferry operators, times, and prices between islands. Book a day or two ahead in high season. Avoid the cheapest operators if reviews mention safety concerns.
