Suan Son Beach
Suan Son Beach, also known locally as Army Beach due to its position adjacent to a military base, offers a genuinely quieter alternative to the busier stretches of coastline around Hua Hin. Long stretches of white sand are shaded by pine trees, and the calm, manageable waves make the water suitable for swimming across most of the year. The beach draws a mix of Thai families and international visitors who prefer a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere over the more commercial tourist experience found elsewhere in the region. Facilities are simple but sufficient. Deck chairs, umbrellas, and small tables can be rented for around 100 baht, toilets and showers are available on site for a small fee of around 10 baht, and there is no entrance charge. The overall setting leans toward the authentic and low-key, making it a better fit for those seeking a peaceful day out than for travellers looking for nightlife or a lively beach scene. The beach is reachable from central Hua Hin by taxi or a short train ride. The cool season, running from November to February, offers the most comfortable conditions, with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. Weekends and Thai public holidays tend to be busier, particularly with local families, so arriving earlier in the day helps secure a good spot under the pines. Light clothing and sun protection are advisable year-round.

Very nice beach, only a short train ride or taxi from Hua Hin. Very pleased to have found this beach, long stretches of white sand and blue sea. Nice to get away from the crowds and enjoy a quiet relaxed beach ⛱️. The beach is edged with trees which provided great shade and there were deck chairs and umbrellas available for 100 Baht. No sun loungers available. We arrived just before 10am and didn't leave until 4pm. There is a small indoor market of food and drink stalls with indoor seating.
This is also called Army Beach because it is adjacent to the Army Base. We rented a couple of deck chairs (surprisingly comfortable), umbrella and small table for ฿100. The beach is quite nice, not crowded. A nearby food court provides food and refreshments. There's also stalls selling clothing, and tourist tatt. The beach is a 10-15 minute motorbike ride from Takiab. Well worth a visit.
Tips for Visiting Beaches & Islands
Check Monsoon Seasons
The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) has rough seas from May to October. The Gulf coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan) is roughest from October to December. Plan your island-hopping around these windows.
Snorkel Gear Is Cheap to Buy
Rental gear is often scratched and ill-fitting. Buy a decent mask and snorkel at a Tesco Lotus or Big C for 300–500 THB — cheaper than two days of rentals and much more hygienic.
Book Ferries on 12Go.Asia
The 12Go platform lets you compare ferry operators, times, and prices between islands. Book a day or two ahead in high season. Avoid the cheapest operators if reviews mention safety concerns.
